Preview: Millwall vs. Queens Park Rangers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Millwall and Queens Park Rangers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Queens Park Rangers will look to bounce back from a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday when they make the short trip to the Den for Saturday's Championship clash with Millwall.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be aiming to record a third consecutive victory after claiming back-to-back wins on their travels.

Alex Neil has overseen two consecutive victories to give his tenure some impetus after he failed to win his opening four league games as Millwall boss.

The Lions recorded a narrow 1-0 victory in last Saturday's away clash with Luton Town, before they repeated that scoreline in Tuesday's meeting with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Mihailo Ivanovic scored the decisive goal in both of those matches as Millwall celebrated back-to-back away league wins for the first time this season.

As a result of their recent success on the road, the Lions have moved up to 14th place in the Championship table, leaving them 10 points clear of the bottom three and seven points adrift of the top six.

After overseeing two away victories, Neil will now be looking to claim his first home league win as Millwall manager, having seen his opening three Championship matches produce two defeats and one draw.

Millwall have won two of their previous three home games against QPR, including a 2-0 victory in their most recent encounter at the Den in December 2023.

QPR will be looking for a positive response in Saturday's fixture after a run of four consecutive league victories came to an end in last Saturday's home clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

Michael Smith and Callum Paterson scored in the final 20 minutes to condemn the R's to a 2-0 defeat at Loftus Road - their first league loss of the calendar year.

In fact, the result represented their first home league defeat since they fell to a heavy 4-1 loss to Middlesbrough in November, leaving them in 13th place and six points adrift of the playoffs.

The R's will attempt to close that gap on Saturday, as they look to record three consecutive away league victories for the first time since October 2022.

Incidentally, the West London club started that run of three successive away wins in 2022 with a 2-0 away victory against Millwall, representing their only win in their last four visits to the Den.

Marti Cifuentes will want to see his side make a positive start to Saturday's fixture given the fact they are yet to score in the opening half hour of an away league game this season.

Team News

Millwall forward Femi Azeez celebrates scoring on November 23, 2024© Imago

Neil recently revealed that Liverpool loanee Callum Scanlon could miss the rest of the season after sustaining a serious hamstring injury.

The hosts are also expected without the services of Ryan Leonard, Danny McNamara, Femi Azeez, Aidomo Emakhu and Josh Coburn.

Goalkeeper Lukas Jensen is likely to miss a second straight game through injury, meaning that Liam Roberts could retain his place for Saturday's fixture.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the injured quartet of Jake Clarke-Salter, Karamoko Dembele, Lucas Andersen and Zan Celar.

Yan Min-hyeok is set to feature in the matchday squad after joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the season.

Rayan Kolli could be reconsidered for a recall after dropping down to the bench for the recent defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Roberts; Crama, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan; Saville, De Norre; Connolly, Bangura-Williams, Honeyman; Ivanovic

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Nardi; Dunne, Edwards, Fox, Paal; Varane, Field; Smyth, Morgan, Chair; Kolli

We say: Millwall 1-1 Queens Park Rangers

The two sides played out a draw when they last faced off in September, and with just a point separating them in the league table, we think that Millwall and QPR will produce another close-fought contest which could result in the spoils being shared.
