Dave King: 'Five in the frame for Rangers managerial job'

Rangers chairman Dave King stresses the importance of the Scottish Championship side making the right managerial appointment this summer.

Rangers chairman Dave King has revealed that five candidates remain in the running to be named as manager of the club.

Stuart McCall, who took over at Ibrox in March, is among those being considered, while former Brentford boss Mark Warburton has also thrown his name into the hat.

The Gers are hopeful of making an appointment by the end of the week, and King has now added that whoever takes over will be at the helm for the long term.

"There were potential managers who dropped out of the race because we are still in the Championship," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"With a club like Rangers there are a lot of names that might come forward, but it's important that we balance the obvious need to make an appointment with getting it right.

"We're looking for an appointment to see us through the next three years. I think it's important that the person has the right level of authority to meet our objectives as a club over the next three seasons."

Rangers missed out on a place in next year's Scottish Premiership, following a 6-1 aggregate defeat against Motherwell in last month's playoff final.
