Rangers confirm appointment of Mark Warburton as new manager

Rangers confirm the appointment of new manager Mark Warburton on a three-year contract, while David Weir has returned to the club as assistant boss.

Rangers have confirmed the appointment of new manager Mark Warburton on a three-year contract, while former club captain David Weir has joined as assistant boss.

The 52-year-old, who left Brentford after guiding them to the Championship playoffs in the 2014-15 season, entered advanced talks with the Scottish outfit over the weekend.

Warburton replaces Stuart McCall, who took charge of the team for an interim period, but failed to lead the side back into the Scottish Premiership due to a defeat to Motherwell in the playoffs.

The former Brentford boss will be assisted by Weir, who left the club three-and-a-half years ago to join Everton in a coaching capacity.

The 45-year-old, who won three league titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups during his playing career at Rangers, has also signed a three-year deal.
