Rangers thrash Raith Rovers

Rangers thrash Raith Rovers 6-1 in Scottish Championship action to keep pace with Hearts at the top of the table.

Rangers romped to another win in the Scottish Championship this afternoon as they thrashed Raith Rovers 6-0.

Raith were enjoying a good start to the season, sitting in fourth place prior to kickoff, just five points behind the Glasgow giants, but they were outclassed at Ibrox.

Kenny Miller was back in the Rangers line-up after making his return from a calf injury, though it was captain Lee McCulloch who opened the scoring with his head with less than eight minutes on the clock.

The visitors were mainly restricted to speculative efforts from distance, but they did have a chance to equalise from a similar position to McCulloch at the other end. Paul Watson escaped his marker and met the ball with his head, only to see it sail wide.

Rangers doubled their lead with the half winding down, with the returning Miller putting the ball on a plate for Nicky Law, whose right-footed shot found the bottom corner and sent the home side into the interval with a comfortable advantage.

Rovers did manage to pull one back when the game was still at 2-0, with Martin Scott giving his side a chance to get back into the contest, but Ally McCoist's men responded ruthlessly to keep up the chase of Hearts at the top of the league.

Miller got on the scoresheet himself after the break with a precise finish, with Kris Boyd providing the assist before adding the fourth himself minutes later by finding the back of the net from outside of the Raith box.

Substitute Jon Daly wrapped things up for Rangers when he found himself unmarked and finished from close rage with a little over five minutes remaining, and he did the same again on 90 minutes to complete the scoring.
