Reading are reportedly close to bringing Brian McDermott back as the club's manager.
The 54-year-old spent three years in charge of the Royals, helping them to win promotion to the Premier League, but left in March 2013 as they were struggling in the top flight.
The Royals have been looking for a new manager after sacking Steve Clarke on Friday following a run of just one win in eight Championship games.
According to BBC Radio Berkshire, McDermott, who has been working as a scout for former club Arsenal, has agreed to succeed Clarke and seal a return to the Madejski Stadium.
After leaving Reading two years ago, McDermott had a 13-month spell as manager of Leeds United before linking up with the Gunners, whom he represented during his playing career.
McDermott first joined Reading as chief scout during Alan Pardew's spell in charge in 2000, having previously managed non-League sides Slough Town and Woking.
