Report: Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp a shock candidate for Reading role

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp could replace Steve Clarke as Reading manager, according to reports.

Mangerless Reading have reportedly included Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp on the shortlist of potential successors for Steve Clarke.

The former West Bromwich Albion boss was sacked by the Championship club on Friday after winning once in eight games.

Bergkamp, 46, was initially in the running to replace Nigel Adkins at the Madejski Stadium last December, but the Royals' hierarchy punted for Clarke.

However, Reading have now revived their interest in the Dutchman - who has been assistant manager at Ajax since 2011 - according to The Mirror.

The ex-Gunner hung up his boots in 2006 following an illustrious 11-year spell in North London.

Reading Under-21s manager Martin Kuhl will take charge on an interim basis.
