Top five Barcelona wins over Real Madrid

Ahead of Saturday's El Clasico, Sports Mole looks back on five of the best Barcelona wins over Real Madrid.

It is that time of the year again. It comes around at least twice a season, sometimes more depending on the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

El Clasico will soon be upon us Real Madrid make the trip to Barcelona in La Liga at the weekend. The home side currently sit top of the table, but victory for the capital outfit would move them level on points with their rivals.

Here, Sports Mole has picked out five famous wins for Barcelona over Los Blancos.

1. Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid (May 9, 1929)

It would not be right to discuss a Barcelona win over Real Madrid without mentioning the first time that the Catalan outfit tasted success over their rivals in La Liga. It will not be remembered as a match full of excitement or indeed goals, but it was the start for Barcelona. The only goal of the match was scored by Josep Sastre as his side claimed all three points at the Estadio Charmartin.

2. Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (April 21, 1935)

Officially, Barcelona have won 105 of the 224 meetings between the two sides. However, there was a time when they really struggled against the capital outfit. Until 1935, Barcelona went four years without tasting success against their great rivals. However, that came to an end when they thumped Madrid 5-0. Four of the goals were scored by Martin Ventolra, who joined the Catalan outfit from Espanyol in 1933. In total, the Spaniard scored 46 goals for Barcelona.

3. Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (January 8, 1994)

Romario might have spent just two years with Barcelona from 1993 until 1995, but he made quite an impact. Arguably, his finest performance in their famous shirt came in January 1994, when he scored three times in their 5-0 win over Real Madrid. Ronald Koeman and Ivan Iglesias were also among the goals, but it was the Brazilian that stole the show. It was also the same season that the Catalan outfit just beat Deportivo La Coruna to the La Liga crown.

4. Real Madrid 0-3 Barcelona (November 19, 2005)

Not many players in matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona are given a standing ovation by the opposing supporters, but that happened in November 2005 when Barcelona made the trip to Madrid. The player in question was Ronaldinho, who scored his side's second and third after Samuel Eto'o had opened the scoring. The Brazilian was certainly a magical player, with both of his strikes that evening demonstrating his talent. Not many teams win at the Bernabeu, let alone by three clear goals.

5. Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (November 29, 2010)

There were many contenders for the fifth and final place in this particular list, but Barcelona's 5-0 win over Real Madrid in November 2010 has been selected. It was a performance that left many branding the Catalan outfit 'the best team in history'. Xavi, Pedro, David Villa (2) and Jeffren were on the scoresheet that night as Jose Mourinho's side were humiliated in Barcelona. In terms of total football, it was just about as good as it gets.
