Carlo Ancelotti: 'Atletico Madrid can challenge for La Liga'

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti backs Atletico Madrid to launch a La Liga title challenge this season.

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has said that Atletico Madrid will "trouble" Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga this season.

Atletico won the Spanish title in the 2013-14 campaign, but finished some 16 points behind champions Barcelona last season.

Ancelotti, however, who departed Real Madrid at the end of the 2014-15 season, has said that Atletico will once again challenge this time around.

"This season will be like the last three years," Ancelotti is quoted as saying by Football Espana.

"Atletico look to be at a high level. I'm confident they'll trouble Barcelona and Madrid. Diego Simeone is a coach who knows how to get the best from players. It's very hard playing against them."

Atletico, who have collected six points from an available six at the start of the new campaign, brought in the likes of Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto during the summer transfer window.
