Former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit has said that Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d'Or over Lionel Messi.
The question of which of the two is the better player is often debated and Petit believes that it is Ronaldo who is number one.
The Frenchman has said that the Real Madrid man has proved himself in the two top leagues.
"After being the King of England, he did not hesitate in taking the chance of a new challenge with Madrid," said the former Arsenal legend.
"He has been able to assume their responsibilities fully, and may have more heading ability than Messi.
"But I hope that both will reach the very highest level possible with their sides."
Petit joined Barcelona from Arsenal in 2000 for a fee of £7m.
