Gerard Pique: 'I always want Real Madrid to lose'

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique claims that he will always want Real Madrid to lose and will not change or soften his stance.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has issued a defiant statement claiming that he will always want Real Madrid to lose and will not change or soften his stance.

During Spain's 2-0 win over Slovakia in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday, the 28-year-old was roundly booed and whistled by the home supporters.

The criticism of the defender stems from his political views - having previously been a supporter of Catalan independence - and dislike of Barcelona's arch rivals.

Pique is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I won't change regarding club rivalry. I always wish Real Madrid to do badly.

"I don't regret anything that I have said and I would repeat it a thousand times and more. I am like that, I want Madrid to always lose. That is the sporting rivalry that has always existed in Spain."

The Spanish Football Federation have moved their friendly against England in November from Madrid to Alicante, reportedly due to fears of more hostility towards Pique.
