Goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips, Anthony Wallace and Gonzalo Verón helped New York Red Bulls to a comfortable 3-0 win over Toronto in New Jersey this morning.
Toronto came close after five minutes when Marco Delgado collected a Sebastian Giovinco pass before thrashing wide from outside the area.
It was their last meaningful attempt for a while as the Red Bulls got on top, before going ahead on 27 minutes when Wright-Phillips slotted past Joe Bendik from inside the area.
The Canadian side could, and maybe should, have levelled before the break, but Ahmed Kantari, from six yards out, missed the target as the hosts led 1-0 at half time.
Wallace went close with a free kick on 55 minutes, but he did strike gold midway through the second period when his left-footed shot hit from 25 yards beat Bendik.
Greg Vanney's side tried in vein to crowbar their way back into the clash, but were reduced to shooting from range and Verón was able to seal the win late on.
