Bournemouth put five past Rotherham United

Bournemouth advance into the fourth round of the FA Cup after cruising past Rotherham United in their all-Championship tie.

Bournemouth have cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating struggling Rotherham United 5-1 in their all-Championship clash this afternoon.

There was an important sliding tackle from Bournemouth's Steve Cook early on to deny Jonson Clarke-Harris as he broke into the box.

At the other end, Junior Stanislas went on a dangerous run and laid the ball off to Shaun Macdonald, but his cross was cleared.

Richard Brindley put Rotherham in front with his first goal for the Millers since his arrival in 2013 when his low strike took a nick off a Bournemouth defender before beating Lee Camp.

The goal was a difficult one to swallow for Bournemouth, as Ian Harte's free kick had gone off the upright and onto the line moments before. The Cherries players were convinced that the ball had gone over, but the referee waved away their protests.

The hosts looked to double their advantage and displayed good energy off the ball to win it back, before Clarke-Harris tried his luck from distance with a shot that went well wide of the goal.

Stanislas wasted a great chance to draw level for Bournemouth after racing through on goal only to put his effort past the wrong side of the post.

MacDonald got an equalising goal, however, just before the interval with a side-footed finish following good work from Yann Kermorgant.

After the break, Kermorgant lined an effort up from 25 yards but was greeted by a Rotherham shirt as he pulled the trigger and his shot was blocked.

The Cherries edged ahead through Stanislas, who made up for his earlier missed chance by rounding Adam Collin and slotting into the net.

Two goals in the space of four minutes then wrapped up the game for Bournemouth as Ryan Fraser and Kermorgant both tapped home.

The latter added a fifth for Bournemouth late on with another close-range finish to put the icing on the cake for Eddie Howe's men.
