Sassuolo hammer sorry Parma

Sassuolo ease their relegation worries by beating Serie A strugglers Parma 4-1 at the Mapei Stadium.

Sassuolo bounced back from losing their previous four Serie A matches by hammering 10-man Parma 4-1 this afternoon.

Jose Mauri threatened early on for the visitors with a free kick from just outside the box that he curled over the bar.

Sassuolo gradually took charge of the contest and went ahead midway through the first half when Nicola Sansone touched in Saphir Taider's cross from close range.

However, Parma hit back two minutes later as Andi Lila's strike took a deflection that left Andrea Consigli helpless as the ball flew into the net to level the scores.

Within 10 minutes, the hosts had regained their lead as Sansone received possession 25 yards out from goal before crashing an effort past Antonio Mirante and into the bottom corner.

Sassuolo held onto their advantage going into the break and very nearly added a third goal at the start of the second half when Simone Zaza headed just over the bar.

Zaza threatened again minutes later when he charged down the left and drove into the box, before firing in a strike that was pushed behind by Mirante.

On the hour mark, Parma found themselves down to 10 men and facing a penalty when Mirante brought down Sansone inside the box.

Domenico Berardi stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake with a confident finish that sent subsitite keeper Alessandro Iacobucci the wrong way.

Sassuolo were cruising and scored a fourth goal minutes later when Simone Missiroli fired a strike into the bottom corner.

Parma thought that they had pulled a goal back when Massimo Coda headed in from a free kick, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Coda was involved again in the final moments when he nodded just wide for the visitors, and they were unable to mount an unlikely comeback as they fell to their 19th league defeat of the season.
