Goals from Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke have secured a 2-0 victory for Aston Villa in their pre-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers.

Having dominated the early proceedings, Villa broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Benteke rounded the home goalkeeper, before rolling the ball into the path of Weimann to score.

The lead was then doubled in the 30th minute thanks to Benteke, who headed in a cross from the right by Matthew Lowton.

Paul Lambert's team continued to control the match during the second half, but they were unable to add to their tally.

The best chance fell to Ciaran Clark, but he failed to convert his headed opportunity.
