Eric Hely confident of Sochaux survival

Eric Hely is confident that Sochaux can avoid the drop from Ligue 1 this season if the players give their all in the remaining matches.

Sochaux coach Eric Hely believes that his side can retain their Ligue 1 status.

Les Lionceaux are currently third from bottom in the league table with 34 points as many matches following their 3-3 comeback away draw with Lille on Friday.

"In terms of our ranking, we're happy, but in terms of our overall performance, it's clear that there are some aspects of our game that still need a lot of work," he told reporters. "But we can still save ourselves. Sometimes the players' attitude makes it seem that we don't believe in beating the drop.

"If the ship is taking in water left and right, there's nothing the captain can do, except for asking for more energy out on the pitch. At 3-1, I said to myself, 'it's possible'. It turned out well. The players believed in their chances of creating the dramatic scenes we all saw.

"We have four matches left and we need to be consistent in our team performances; we need to have that winning mentality. And it can't just be a façade. I made changes tonight because I expected a lot from my substitutes, and they turned out to be very important."

Vincent Nogueira scored twice for Sochaux at Grand Stade Lille Metropole and Cedric Kante struck once.
