Preview: South Korea Women vs. Morocco Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's World Cup clash between South Korea Women and Morocco Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

South Korea Women will attempt to get off the mark at the Women's World Cup 2023 when they face Morocco Women on Sunday.

Morocco are also looking to pick up their first points of the tournament after suffering a heavy defeat to Germany in their opening game.

South Korea's hopes of reaching the knockout rounds were dealt a blow on Matchday One as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Colombia.

Catalina Usme gave Colombia the lead from the penalty spot, before Linda Caicedo added a second before half time with a long-range strike that slipped through the grasp of Yoon Young-geul in the South Korean goal.

With South Korea unable to find a way back into the contest, they fell to their fifth consecutive defeat at the World Cup finals.

South Korea boss Colin Bell will know that another loss on Sunday would result in an early exit if Germany and Colombia play out a draw.

However, they will have their sights set on claiming their second win at a World Cup finals, with their only previous victory taking place against Spain in the 2015 tournament.

Meanwhile, Morocco will have to pick themselves up for Sunday's contest after beginning their first-ever Women's World Cup campaign with a 6-0 loss to Germany.

The Lionesses of Atlas trailed by two goals at the break following a first-half brace from Alex Popp, before Germany moved through the gears in the second period to net four more goals and condemn Morocco to a heavy defeat.

Having failed to win any of their last six games, Reynald Pedros will be concerned by the fact that his side have failed to find the net in all six of those matches.

With South Korea sitting 55 places above Morocco in the FIFA World Rankings, the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finalists know that they have their work cut out to get a positive result on Sunday.

Morocco could be eliminated with a game to play if they lose to South Korea and the other game in Group H finishes all square.

Team News

Following a shaky display in South Korea's opening game of the tournament, Yoon could be replaced in goal by Kim Jung-mi.

The experienced goalkeeper could be shielded by the back three of Kim Hye-ri, Lim Seon-joo and Shim Seo-yeon.

At 16 years and 26 days, Casey Phair became the youngest player in World Cup history when she made a substitute appearance against Colombia, and she could be utilised off the bench again on Sunday.

As for Morocco, Salma Amani could be brought into the starting lineup after featuring as a substitute on Matchday One

Despite experiencing a tough outing against Germany, Pedros is expected to stick with a back four made up of Sarah Kassi, Hanane Ait El Haj, Mrabet and Zineb Redouani.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Rosella Ayane is expected to lead the line once again, and she will be hoping to score Morocco's first goal at the tournament.

South Korea Women possible starting lineup:
Jung-mi; Hye-ri, Seon-joo, Seo-yeon; Hyo-joo, Geum-min, So-yun, So-hyun, Sel-gi; Hwa-yeon, Yu-ri

Morocco Women possible starting lineup:
Errmichi; Kassi, El Haj, Mrabet, Redouani; Ouzraoui, Nakkach, Chebbak, Tagnauout; Amani, Ayane

We say: South Korea Women 2-1 Morocco Women

South Korea would have been disappointed with their performance in the opening game, but we think that they will bounce back with a victory over a Moroccan side that will be low on confidence following the 6-0 defeat to Germany.
