Southampton's Charlie Austin: 'Newcastle United will fight against us'

Charlie Austin warns his Southampton teammates to be wary of Newcastle United this weekend as they are "battling for their lives".

Southampton striker Charlie Austin has warned his teammates that they face a Newcastle United side "fighting for their lives" on Saturday.

Rafael Benitez's Magpies are currently six points from safety in the Premier League with seven games left to play.

As for Southampton, they have a different objective as Ronald Koeman's side are battling for a European spot as they are six points behind fifth-placed Manchester United.

"Something's obviously not gone right [at Newcastle] but we know they'll be fighting for their lives on Saturday," Austin told Southampton's official club website. "It's so important for them that they get those three points but on the other hand it's so important for us too.

"So it's nice that we're still playing for something, still pushing, there's a big six games to go for us and we just concentrate on us and hopefully the result can take care of itself. Hopefully we can keep our home form going and get the three points."

Southampton and Newcastle played out a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the season at St James' Park.
