Claude Puel in advanced negotiations with Leicester City?

Southampton will reportedly announce Claude Puel as their new manager on Wednesday afternoon, a little over a week on from sacking boss Craig Shakespeare.

Ex-Southampton boss Claude Puel is in advanced negotiations with Leicester City over the vacant managerial job, according to a report.

The Foxes are expected to announce Puel as the successor to Craig Shakespeare later today, eight days on from sacking the Englishman.

Shakespeare was given his marching orders by the Srivaddhanaprabha family following a run of three wins in 10 games in all competitions, despite only being handed the job on a permanent basis in the summer.

Sky Sports News reports that an agreement with Puel, who spent just one season at St Mary's Stadium before being sacked in June, is close to being reached.

Michael Appleton has taken temporary charge of City over the past week, guiding his side to wins over Swansea City and Leeds United in the Premier League and EFL Cup respectively.

Former Manchester City chief Manuel Pellegrini is also understood to have been in the frame, while Sean Dyche, Marco Silva and David Wagner were all linked.
