A Rickie Lambert hat-trick helped Southampton maintain their 100 percent home record this season with a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.

The visitors took the lead on seven minutes, courtesy of Matt Derbyshire's close-range finish, but the Saints replied instantly through Lambert.

The hosts were ahead on 24 minutes when Lambert nodded home David Connolly's cross.

Steve McLaren's side drew level just before half-time with a low drive from Radoslaw Majewski.

Southampton were on top for most of the second half and their persistence paid off when Lambert bagged his hat-trick with a far post header from Danny Fox's free-kick.

Nigel Adkins' side remain a point behind Brighton, while Forest slip down to 19th.
