Jose Fonte signs new three-year deal at Southampton

Jose Fonte signs a new three-year contract at Southampton.

Southampton have announced that defender Jose Fonte has committed his future to the Premier League club by signing a new three-year contract.

The Saints have experienced a player exodus this summer, with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw and Dejan Lovren all seeking pastures new following the departure of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, new boss Ronald Koeman has been able to retain the services of Fonte, who has put pen to paper on a deal that runs until the summer of 2017.

The defender joined Koeman in this afternoon's press conference to announce the deal, and told reporters: "I'm very happy to sign this contract. This is where I feel at home."

Koeman also confirmed that Fonte will captain the team for the upcoming season following Lallana's departure to Liverpool.
