An early strike from Fernando Torres has sent Spain into the break with a one-goal advantage over the Republic of Ireland.
As was expected, the Spaniards have dominated possession during the first 45 minutes, with much of the play being situated in Ireland's half.
The signs looked ominous for Giovanni Trapattoni's men after Torres had given Spain the lead in the fourth minute.
The Chelsea striker picked the ball off Richard Dunne on the edge of the area, before slamming past Shay Given and into the roof of the net.
Ireland have stood firm since conceding and have not allowed the world and European champions many clear-cut chances.
However, Spain look very comfortable and will be hoping to put the game to bed early in the second half.
