Tottenham Hotspur reach FA Cup fourth round with replay win at Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur beat Leicester in their FA Cup third-round replay thanks to goals either side of half time from Son Heung-Min and Nacer Chadli.

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Leicester City in tonight's third-round replay at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester's early energy panicked Spurs in possession on a couple of occasions, but it was the visitors who created the first chance of note when Son Heung-Min cut back for Christian Eriksen and the Dane shot wide.

The Foxes' only shot on target in the first half was a free kick from Gokhan Inler that went straight at Michel Vorm after Tom Carroll had upended Ben Chilwell right on the edge of the area.

Spurs also had only one effort on goal in the opening period, but it was the opener as Son ran at Chilwell before shifting the ball to his right and lashing a dipping shot past Kasper Schmeichel at the near post.

Demarai Gray was making his home debut for Leicester and he almost crowned it with a goal shortly after half time when his curling shot was beaten out by Vorm.

Spurs' top scorer Harry Kane was introduced on the hour mark and he tested Schmeichel with an early shot before playing a part in the visitors' second.

He fed the ball into Son and the forward threaded it through for Nacer Chadli, who beat Schmeichel with a low finish at the near post.

Kane almost made it three with a shot that Schmeichel parried away, but it was the second goal that seemed to kill off Leicester, who struggled to really cut open Spurs at any point in the closing stages.

Gray fired over from distance, while substitute Marc Albrighton was denied in the final minute when he volleyed straight at Vorm.

With victory, eight-time FA Cup winners Spurs will travel to League One side Colchester United in the fourth round on January 30.
