Half-Time Report: Emmanuel Adebayor strike hands Tottenham Hotspur lead

Tottenham Hotspur lead at the break in the Premier League clash with Newcastle United as Emmanuel Adebayor scores in the 18th minute at St James' Park.

Tottenham Hotspur lead Newcastle United at the break in their Premier League clash at St James' Park thanks to a strike from Emmanuel Adebayor.

Spurs had a great chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute when Davide Santon was robbed of the ball by Younes Kaboul who teed up Paulinho, but his effort was well saved by Tim Krul.

Newcastle responded to this early threat as Mathieu Debuchy lifted a cross to the back post, where Luuk de Jong won a header and turned it into the path of Papiss Cisse, who failed to find the net from close range.

Cisse was punished for his miss as Spurs took the lead in the 18th minute when Nabil Bentaleb raided into the box and powered a low cross across the face of goal, which fell into the path of Adebayor who tapped the ball home.

Tottenham came close to adding a second goal as Aaron Lennon received the ball down the right. He cut inside onto his left foot and fired at goal, but his effort was tipped onto the post by Krul and cleared away.
