Rafael Van der Vaart gives Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 lead over Blackburn Rovers at the break.

Tottenham Hotspur lead Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at the interval of Sunday's Premier League encounter.

It was the home side who started the match the stronger and they might have led within a minute when Luka Modric found Aaron Lennon at the back post, but somehow the England man missed from close range.

Harry Redknapp's side continued their lively start when Sandro drove into the box after five minutes, but Rovers defender Scott Dann made the block.

Spurs continued to attack, however, and Sandro smashed the crossbar with a wonderful effort after just nine minutes in the match.

The home side continued to dominate as the half developed, with Rovers struggling to carve out any real chances of their own.

Rafael Van der Vaart eventually handed Spurs the lead after 22 minutes when he converted from close range.

Spurs continued to dominate as the half approached its latter stages, and William Gallas struck the crossbar late on, with Blackburn failing to test Brad Friedel between the sticks.
