Tottenham Hotspur ended their three-match winless streak with a comfortable home victory over London rivals West Ham United earlier today.

A Jermain Defoe double and a superb finish from Gareth Bale put Spurs in total command, before Andy Carroll reduced the Hammers' arrears with a late headed goal.

Was the result fair?

Yes. Spurs were very impressive and a two-goal victory reflected quite kindly on the Hammers.

Spurs' performance

Captain Michael Dawson and Steven Caulker were very impressive in defence and nullified the threat of Carroll for the vast majority of the match. At the other end, Bale, Defoe, Clint Dempsey and Aaron Lennon all linked up superbly and frequently terrorised the Hammers' backline.

West Ham's performance

After being overrun in the first 10 minutes, the Hammers frustrated Tottenham for much of the first half. However, Defoe's wonderstrike on the stroke of half time seemed to break the visitors' spirits and Spurs were thoroughly dominant after the break.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Clint Dempsey had his best game in a Spurs shirt by far. The USA international played a key role in two of his side's three goals and went close to finding the net himself when he was denied by the crossbar.

Spurs host Liverpool on Wednesday evening, while West Ham travel to Manchester United on the same night.
