Michael Dawson is happy at his decision to stay and fight for his place at Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the season.

Michael Dawson is happy that he stayed at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, rather than moving across London to Queens Park Rangers.

The centre-back was deemed surplus to requirements by incoming manager Andre Villas-Boas, and a bid from QPR was accepted.

Since then though, the 29-year-old has forced his way back into the first-team and has vindicated his decision to reject a move.

"If I had wanted to leave, I could have gone," Dawson told Sky Sports. "They accepted an offer for me and I chose to stay and fight for my position.

"But the gaffer never once left me out of things. He's been great like that. Everyone's got their opinions and hopefully I've changed his.

"It was hard for me but you can never doubt your own ability. You back yourself to bounce back and perform. I think I've done that."

Dawson will hope to be in the side when Spurs take on Manchester United later today.
