Jermain Defoe claims that his Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp would find it hard to turn down the England job.

Jermain Defoe has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp would find it hard to turn down the England job.

The 63-year-old is the favourite to succeed Fabio Capello after the Italian's resignation on Wednesday evening.

"Everyone wants Harry to be the next England manager," the Spurs striker told BBC Sport.

"He'll never turn round and say 'no I don't want the job', because it's such a big job. We don't want Harry to leave because of what he's achieved."

Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are two players to have given their backing to Redknapp for the role.
