Erik Lamela has reportedly decided to spend the beginning of the summer training with River Plate in an attempt to return to full fitness.
Tottenham Hotspur's record signing endured a difficult first season in England after joining from Roma for a club-record fee, with injuries disrupting the majority of his campaign.
According to The Telegraph, Lamela is making plans to be fully fit for the start of pre-season training as he looks to become a regular under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The 22-year-old is believed to have agreed to go on a fitness programme, which will include spending some of the summer working with River's youth squads.
Spurs will be in regular contact with fitness coaches working with the winger in Argentina before welcoming Lamela back for preparations ahead of the new season in July.
Lamela was only able to make nine appearances in his first Premier League campaign.
