Steven Pienaar is out for six weeks after a groin operation.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar will miss six weeks of action after having a groin operation.

The South African international sustained an injury during the first half of Tottenham's 2-1 friendly victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Pienaar, 29, made 11 appearances for Spurs last season after joining from Everton in January.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp could also be without Rafael van der Vaart for their Premier League opener against Everton on Saturday.

The Dutch international is currently suffering from an ankle injury.
