Tottenham Hotspur identify Gareth Southgate as their number one choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Gareth Southgate as their number one choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino should the Argentine leave at the end of the season.

Pochettino has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks, and the 47-year-old is said to be seriously considering his future at Spurs after five years with the club.

According to the Daily Star, the London giants are preparing for life after the South American and believe that the current England manager would be the ideal replacement.

Southgate has been in charge of the Three Lions since September 2016 - winning 21 of his 37 games in charge of the national team during an impressive spell.

The 49-year-old famously led his country to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, but there are doubts whether he will remain in his current role beyond the end of Euro 2020.

Southgate's only managerial experience at club level came with Middlesbrough between 2006 and 2009.
