Kieran Trippier convinced Tottenham Hotspur was right move

Kieran Trippier is convinced that joining Tottenham Hotspur was the right move, even though he has played just twice in the Premier League this season.

Right-back Kieran Trippier has insisted that joining Tottenham Hotspur last summer was right move, despite the fact that he has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.

Trippier, 25, who joined Spurs from Burnley last summer following the Clarets' relegation back to the Championship, has made just two league appearances for Spurs after playing in all 38 of Burnley's games last season.

Kyle Walker has been first-choice right-back and Trippier admitted that his main competition has been "doing really well" this term.

"I thought it was the right move for me personally to come here and things have gone really well so far," PA quotes Trippier as saying.

"I expected the competition. I knew Kyle Walker before I even came here. I knew it would be tough competing for the right-back spot.

"When I am called upon, I will just try my best and give 100%. Kyle has been doing really well this season so all I can do is do my best when I get my chance."

Trippier added that the main reason he decided to sign for Spurs was head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who he says is an "unbelievable manager".

"There were a couple of clubs who were interested but as soon as I sat down with the gaffer here, that was it. I had made my decision," Trippier added.

"The way he spoke to me, the way he wanted me to play. He wanted me to come here. It was just the way he talked and said how much he liked me as a player. He had watched me, everything he said.

"I just knew straight away I wanted to come here. He is an unbelievable manager."

Trippier recently impressed on his first Premier League start at Watford and is likely to start in the FA Cup third-round contest against Leicester City later today.
