Harry Redknapp: 'Emmanuel Adebayor wouldn't play in the Championship'

Harry Redknapp admits that Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is unlikely to drop down to the Championship to join QPR on loan.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that Emmanuel Adebayor's probable reluctance to drop down to the Championship means that the Togolese forward is unlikely to join Queens Park Rangers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been training with the reserves since returning from compassionate leave and is seemingly surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp is keen to add another goalscorer to his promotion-chasing Rangers squad and has revealed his interest in signing Adebayor, whom he brought to Spurs on loan during his time as Lillywhites boss.

Tottenham are apparently willing to let the 29-year-old leave, but Redknapp has conceded that Adebayor is likely to turn down offers from lower divisions than the top flight.

"I would love Manny here but I couldn't see him dropping down to the Championship," Redknapp told reporters.

"You never know. If he would we'd love to have him, but it would be difficult."

Adebayor scored five goals in 25 Premier League appearances last season for Spurs, whom he joined permanently from Manchester City in 2012.
