Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn is reportedly deemed surplus to requirements by head coach Antonio Conte and is free to leave the club in January.

The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of the Italian in November, featuring for just 13 minutes in two substitute appearances.

Conte is understood to be settled on an attacking front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura in his starting lineup, while he may also look to bolster his squad with more offensive players in the winter window, which could further limit Bergwijn's first-team opportunities.

According to The Times, Bergwijn has been offered the chance to return to the Eredivisie and sign for Ajax on an initial short-term loan deal until the end of the season.

The report adds that the Dutchman, who signed for Spurs for around £27m from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020, is a target for Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who is an admirer of the winger.

Bergwijn has made 62 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham, scoring four goals and providing nine assists.
