Thomas Sorensen targets Stoke City playing time

Thomas Sorensen hopes to play more football under new manager Mark Hughes.

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has admitted that he hopes to play more first-team football under new manager Mark Hughes.

Sorensen said that it was frustrating to be back-up to Asmir Begovic, who impressed last season with a string of excellent performances.

The Dane, however, is aware that he will have to "wait and see" what Hughes's plans are when the players report back for pre-season.

"I do want to be playing more and if I am in the manager's plans then great," he told The Sentinel. "I am really happy at Stoke and my family are happy. That is a big thing for me, especially at my age.

"It is a long summer and a lot can happen, but when we report back I am sure everyone will know what the club's plans are.

"It was frustrating last season but I have great respect for how Asmir played. It makes it easier to accept when you are not in the team if the other guy is doing a great job. I have been long enough in the game to know you have to wait and see."

Sorensen has been at Stoke since signing for the club in 2008.
