Ryan Shawcross: 'Stoke City have been sleepwalking towards relegation'

Shawcross: 'Stoke sleepwalking to drop'

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross says that his side have been 'sleepwalking towards relegation' from the Premier League this season.

Stoke City centre-back Ryan Shawcross has said that the club have been 'sleeping walking towards relegation' after another frustrating result in the Premier League over the weekend.

The Potters took the lead against Burnley at the bet365 Stadium, only to end up drawing 1-1 with Sean Dyche's men as the hosts passed up a number of crucial chances during the contest.

The draw leaves Stoke sitting in 19th place in the standings and four points adrift of 17th-placed Swansea City, who also have a game in hand over the Potters.

"You can't nail our bad season to one chance," Shawcross told Sky Sports News. "We've been sleepwalking into this, we've been disappointing all season so there's a lot of factors that go into the situation we're in and something needs to change and change quickly.

"We knew what we needed to do and unfortunately we didn't. The effort was there, the endeavour was there but the quality was probably lacking. We've just not got that person who can put the ball in the back of the net, and unfortunately we keep conceding late goals."

Paul Lambert's men could be relegated as early as next weekend should they be beaten by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and other results go against them.
