Stoke City boss Mark Hughes hints at big summer spending

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes insists that the club have the money to finance a move for a "top-quality player".

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has suggested that the club could dip into their pockets to sign a "top-quality player" this summer.

Recently, the Potters extended the contract of goalkeeper Jack Butland, and the club are adamant that they want to do the same with number one Asmir Begovic.

With regards to incoming players, Hughes is confident that Stoke have the finances to add "good-quality" members to the squad.

"We are the lowest spenders in the transfer market during my time here," Hughes said in this morning's press conference. "At some point we will have to reinvest significantly.

"We have managed to do a few really good deals and managed to bring good quality players here so far. I'm comfortable that if we were able to take a top-quality player for a large sum of money, then we would be able to do that."

Stoke, who are 10th in the table, will take on West Ham United at Upton Park tomorrow.
