Sebastian Coates focused on new Premier League season

Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates admits that he has quickly turned his attention to the Premier League season following Uruguay's early exit from the Copa America.

Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates has revealed that he is focused on the new season with the Black Cats after Uruguay's disappointing exit from the Copa America.

The 24-year-old was part of La Celeste's squad that was defeated in the quarter-finals of the competition by eventual-winners Chile as Oscar Tabarez's men were unable to match their accomplishment of their 2011 tournament win.

On his return to England, Coates sealed a permanent move to Sunderland in a £2m switch from Liverpool, and he is now eagerly anticipating the Premier League season at the Stadium of Light.

He told the club's official website: "Every time I'm involved it's very special and it's very important to me. It was a great experience but sadly we had a difficult moment against Chile.

"Last month, I was with the national team and thinking only of that but now I'm here I'm focused on playing for the club. It was great to be there but really you want to get to the final."

Coates made 13 appearances for Sunderland last season.
