Dick Advocaat 'will be next Sunderland manager'

Dick Advocaat tells a Dutch football magazine that he will be the next Sunderland manager.

Dick Advocaat has said that he is the new Sunderland manager, following the sacking of Gus Poyet on Monday afternoon.

Poyet was dismissed after leading Sunderland to 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, while the Black Cats have won just four Premier League matches this season.

The Uruguayan was finally sacked after Sunderland's 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

"I am now in a dark hotel, but soon I'll be working in the Stadium of Light," Advocaat told Dutch football magazine Voetbal International.

"This is something I always wanted to do, the Premier League. The Premier League is a phenomenal competition," Advocaat told AD Sportwereld.

"As a manager that is where you want to work, that has such a pulling power.

"Saturday, West Ham awaits. And then there's the international break. And then – the derby with Newcastle United. That is really something to look forward to because believe me, this just is a very big club."

Advocaat has won a host of honours throughout his managerial career, including the 2008 UEFA Cup with Zenit St Petersburg, two Scottish Premiership titles with Rangers and the 1997 Eredivisie title with PSV Eindhoven.

He has also managed six national teams, including two spells with the Netherlands in the 1990s. His most recent role was with Serbia in 2014.
