Shola Ameobi is handed his first Premier League start of the season, replacing Papiss Cisse in attack for today's trip to local rivals Sunderland.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has made four changes ahead of today's Tyne–Wear derby at Sunderland.

Tim Krul, Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini come in for Steve Harper, James Perch and Shane Ferguson following the heavy defeat by Manchester United.

Shola Ameobi starts for the first time in the Premier League this season, replacing Papiss Cisse, who drops to the substitutes' bench.

Meanwhile, Sunderland remain unchanged from their 3-0 loss at Manchester City.
