Torino edge past Cagliari

Torino beat Cagliari 2-1 in their Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Torino have moved back into the top half of the Serie A table by beating lowly Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin this afternoon.

Nene had an early sight of goal for the visitors, but he could only fire his strike from the edge of the area narrowly over the bar.

Riccardo Meggiorini worked an opening of his own for the home side, but he drilled his effort just wide of the post.

Torino took the lead in the final minute of the first half through Omar El Kaddouri, who headed in Alessio Cerci's right-wing cross from close range.

They continued to dominate after the break and scored a second goal in the 71st minute when Cerci ran onto Giuseppe Vives's pass, before keeping his composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

Nene pulled a goal back for Cagliari six minutes later after meeting Francesco Pisano's cross to power a header out of the reach of Daniele Padelli.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser but could not find the net, as they fell to an 18th league defeat of the season.
