Toulouse president Olivier Sadran says that Etienne Capoue is close to joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Toulouse president Olivier Sadran has revealed that French international Etienne Capoue is on the verge of signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

The defensive midfielder scored seven goals in 34 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, catching the attention of a number of clubs across Europe.

Among those believed to be interested are Spurs' North London rivals Arsenal, although he was deep in talks with Premier League newcomers Cardiff City until a £8.6m deal eventually collapsed.

Atletico Madrid are also thought to be keen, but when Sadran was asked about Capoue's potential move to White Hart Lane, he told French radio station RMC: "He will go there."

The 25-year-old has been capped five times by Les Bleus.
