Alvaro Negredo aware of need for improvement

Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo, who has only scored once this term, admits that he has not been clinical enough in front of goal this season.

Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo has conceded that he has been short of his best form for Los Che this season.

The Spanish international, who joined Valencia on a permanent deal in the summer after spending last season on loan from Manchester City, has only scored once in seven appearances for Nuno's team this term.

The 30-year-old has said that he has been lacking service in the final third, but has still placed the blame on himself for not scoring more goals.

"It is not difficult to play in this system. It's true that I'm asked to do things which take me away from the goal, but it's a system which produced results last season," Negredo told Goal.com.

"We're not scoring the goals that we would like, but the first thing I have to do is to be self-critical. I have to take advantage of my chances and I am not doing that at the moment — even if it's true there have not been many chances.

"The other day, though, for example, I had a clear chance to score against Athletic Club, the sort that you shouldn't miss. It's about patience and trying to find better positions. You have to be well placed to score more, which is what every striker wants."

Negredo only scored six goals in 33 appearances for Valencia last season, but regularly hit double figures during his time at Sevilla.
