Valencia reach agreement for River Plate defender Eder Alvarez Balanta?

River Plate's Colombian defender Eder Alvarez Balanta could be on his way to La Liga after reports emerged of an agreement with Valencia for the youngster.

Valencia have agreed terms with River Plate over the signing of Colombian prospect Eder Alvarez Balanta for a reported sum of £5m (€6.5m).

However, if the Spanish club want to sign the defender, they have to free up a slot in their squad for a 'non-EU' player as the defender doesn't hold a European passport, according to Canchallena.com.

The 21-year-old has attracted a lot of interest, with the likes of West Ham United and Liverpool keen for the Colombian's signature.

Balanta was named in Colombia's 23-man squad for this summer's FIFA World Cup, making just one appearance in Colombia's 4-1 win against Japan.
