Craig Bellamy confirms Wales retirement plans

Wales striker Craig Bellamy announces plans to retire from international football.

Wales striker Craig Bellamy has confirmed that he will retire from international football after the country's upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Bellamy, 34, and his international teammates host Macedonia on Friday before travelling to Belgium on Tuesday.

The Cardiff City striker has scored 19 goals in 76 games for Wales since making his debut in 1998.

"Players come and go and my career has definitely come and gone," BBC Sport quotes Bellamy as saying.

"I have to do what's best for the national team and this group of players are the future. The next qualifiers, two-odd years, I'm not going to see it."

Bellamy was named Wales captain in 2007 but relinquished the role four years later.
