Keith Downing: 'West Bromwich Albion showed a lot of heart'

Keith Downing says that West Bromwich Albion showed "big hearts" to come from behind and rescue a point in the 1-1 draw with Hull City.

West Bromwich Albion caretaker boss Keith Downing has praised his side for their "big hearts" after rescuing a late point against Hull City in a 1-1 draw this afternoon.

Jake Livermore had given the visitors a first-half lead, but Matej Vydra scored his first goal for the club in the 86th minute to ensure that his side took their first point in five games.

"I'm pleased for Matej," Downing told the club's official website. "He's been working hard at his game and stuck at it and we maybe saw signs of what he did in Championship, but I've got mixed feelings overall.

"We saw a team that was a bit anxious and edgy, but also one with big hearts that keeps going to the end.

"It wasn't the start we wanted, but we changed formation at half time and got a good response. A point after four defeats is an improvement."

Downing took charge of West Brom for the first time today after the dismissal of Steve Clarke as manager a week ago.
