West Bromwich Albion boss Darren Moore: 'Championship will be gruelling'

Head coach Darren Moore warns his West Bromwich Albion squad to expect a "gruelling" campaign in the Championship next season.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Darren Moore has warned his side that they will have to come through a "gruelling" Championship campaign to earn a return to the Premier League.

After a poor season in the top flight, West Brom are back at the second tier of English football after an eight-year absence, with Moore having just been named as the club's new boss.

Moore spent the majority of his playing career in the same division, and the former youth coach has acknowledged that his squad will have to work hard in order gain another chance among English football's elite.

At a press conference, the 44-year-old told reporters: "Along with ourselves, there's another 23 clubs in the Championship. It's a very tough, gruelling, relentless league with many challenges we'll have to face.

"The only way we'll overcome the challenges is by being the absolute best that we can as a football club. I'm looking forward to seeing the league again because I previously played a lot of games there. I know the challenges that lie ahead.

"The ultimate ambition is definitely to keep the club moving forward, to turn around and say it's promotion, there's another 23 clubs, everybody's vying for that special prize and we're no different to the other clubs in the Championship."

Under Moore, the Baggies claimed 11 points from their final half-a-dozen matches this season.
