Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is named as West Bromwich Albion's sixth permanent manager since 2011.

West Bromwich Albion have appointed former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 56-year-old, out of work since being sacked by the Eagles 11 months ago, succeeds Tony Pulis at The Hawthorns helm.

Pardew becomes Albion's sixth permanent boss since 2011, taking over from Pulis following a disappointing run of form that has left the Baggies in relegation danger.

Ex-Newcastle United assistant John Carver, whom Pardew worked alongside at St James' Park, will also join West Brom's backroom coaching staff.

Chairman John Williams told the club's official website: "Alan brings the experience of more than 300 Premier League games and the kind of dynamic leadership from which our club can benefit.

"We were impressed with what he had to say and what he has to offer and we are looking forward to an exciting new era under his charge."

Pardew, named both Premier League and LMA Manager of the Year in 2012, will be in the dugout for the visit of former club Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Assistant head coach Gary Megson has left the club, meanwhile, having taken charge of the recent draws against Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.
