Tony Pulis: 'Saido Berahino's future is in his own hands'

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis insists that striker Saido Berahino can control whether he fulfils his own potential.

Tony Pulis has said that the pinnacle of Saido Berahino's career can only be determined by the striker himself.

The West Bromwich Albion striker earned praise for his goal-scoring form at the start of the season, but off-the-pitch issues and a dip in form midseason have led to concerns over whether the England Under-21s international will fulfil his potential.

The Baggies manager told the Birmingham Mail: "As I've said before Saido has been brilliant since I have come to the football club. There's been no problems with Saido, he has been good around the place, he is a young lad who has had a lot of publicity and a lot of praise early on in his career.

"What he needed to do was just remember what he was: a professional footballer and be reminded that he hasn't reached the pinnacle of his career. He can decide whether he is that good, or average, or falls away.

"He'll decide it by his attitude, his commitment and to his approach to not only football but life in general. The [Saido Berahino Foundation] that he is starting next week down in London is wonderful and it shows the other side of what everybody perceives the kid is."

Berahino has scored 18 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for West Brom this season.
