Nicolas Anelka 'terminates' West Bromwich Albion contract

Nicolas Anelka says that he has terminated his contract with West Bromwich Albion after failing to agree to their "conditions" in order to return to the side.

Nicolas Anelka has revealed that he has terminated his contract with West Bromwich Albion after refusing to "accept" their conditions.

The striker made the announcement via his Twitter account, in which he wrote in French that the Premier League outfit tried to impose conditions on his return to the side.

The 35-year-old was suspended by the Baggies after an independent panel at the Football Association issued a five-match ban following the striker's controversial 'quenelle' gesture during a goal celebration.

The gesture, which has been strongly associated with anti-semitism, was made by Anelka during a league match against West Ham United back in December.

Anelka's tweets indicate that the Frenchman has terminated his deal at The Hawthorns with immediate effect, but the club are yet to confirm his claims.

The forward's tweets are translated as saying: "Following discussions between the club and me, proposals have been made to me that I rejoined the group under certain conditions that I can not accept.

"Wishing to keep my integrity, so I decided to free myself and to terminate the contract binding me with West Bromwich Albion until 2014, and now."

Anelka joined West Brom last year.
