West Ham United "in negotiations" for striker

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that the club is "in negotiations" to sign a new striker.

The Hammers have struggled for goals in the Premier League this season, scoring just 13 times in 16 games in the absence of the injured Andy Carroll.

However, Allardyce is now hopeful that a deal can be done in the New Year to bring a forward to Upton Park.

"We're looking at a frontline attacking player, there's no doubt about that," he told West Ham's official website. "We've been in negotiations, not just for one but for many others.

"We're moving onto the next phase and there are possibilities and we're talking to the club and the players agents to see whether they're going to join us or not."

West Ham return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
